Beautiful rug but….

The rug is beautiful; just what I wanted for my dining room! But it smells very strong of musty rope It was so bad, I had to get up in the middle of the night and put it on my porch. I would love to keep it if someone could tell me how to get rid of the smell, but I’m worried it will never get better and I won’t be able to tolerate it in my house.
